Gitane means gypsy, and the name is doing some work here. This Malagouzia is not tied to one permanent vineyard. Each vintage, Vasiliki Akriotou searches across Central Greece for the parcels she believes can give the variety its best expression. Different small homeland, same grape, same idea.

The 2025 is 100% Malagouzia, made from carefully selected, low-yield vineyards. In the glass, the variety’s aromatic side comes first: white flowers, bergamot and fresh stone fruit, followed by citrus and subtle herbal notes. But Gitane is not built around perfume alone. There is enough freshness and structure underneath to keep things firmly at the table.

A short pre-fermentation skin contact is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation. The wine then remains on its fine lees, with part of the wine matured in amphora. That extra time and texture pull Malagouzia away from the simple, overtly aromatic style it can fall into. Still unmistakably Malagouzia, just with a little more depth and somewhere else to go.
