Malagouzia

Malagouzia has gone from near extinction to headline act in Greece. Everyone makes it now — but not everyone makes it count. Samartzis works it from altitude, on lean Boeotian soils, pulling freshness and nerve instead of fatiguing perfume.

The result is Malagouzia with restraint. Aromatic, yes, but sharpened by mountain air and the kind of winemaking that values tension over excess. It’s a white that feels alive in the glass, layered without being loud.

Samartzis Malagouzia is proof that even a comeback grape can still surprise — if you treat it with discipline, not ego.

The producer

In the shadow of Mount Helicon, where myth says the Muses found their voice, the Samartzis family has been writing their own story since 1979. The setting is Askri, in the Valley of the Muses, a place where vineyards cling to stony slopes and the air still carries a hint of mountain wildness. … Read more
