Blanco
Rioja Blanco does not need to be stiff to be interesting.
Luis Alegre Blanco Sobre Lías starts with old-vine Viura, mostly from La Reñana, a vineyard planted in 1920, then adds a touch of Malvasía and plenty of lees time. The idea is simple: keep the freshness, build the texture, skip the heaviness.
The vineyards sit high in Rioja Alavesa, around 600 metres, on limestone-rich soils. That altitude keeps things bright, while fermentation in stainless steel and egg-shaped vessels gives the wine a little more shape and depth.
Expect pear, pineapple and ripe tropical fruit, but the real story is the texture. Rounded, fresh, lightly creamy and very easy to drink. Enough character for the table, enough freshness for a second glass. A white Rioja that feels modern without trying too hard.
