Finca La Reñana Tinto Reserva is Rioja seen through a single place rather than a regional formula.

High on the slopes of the Sierra de Toloño, between Laguardia and Elvillar, La Reñana sits at around 600 metres. Its oldest vines date back to 1920, rooted in poor limestone-rich, clay-loam soils. Tempranillo leads, with a small proportion of Maturana Tinta bringing another dimension to a wine shaped as much by altitude and exposure as by variety. There is concentration here, but also the freshness and definition that distinguish the best sites of Rioja Alavesa.

The grapes are selected by hand, followed by a cold pre-fermentation maceration and 15-day fermentation. Twenty-four months in French and American oak develop the wine without erasing the vineyard beneath it. Red fruit, fine spice, cinnamon and subtle vanilla emerge within a deep, composed structure, framed by polished tannins and a long, savoury finish.

Power is not the point. Precision is. A mature, finely structured Rioja whose complexity reveals itself gradually, and whose real luxury is that it tastes unmistakably of where it comes from.
