Parcela Nº 5
Parcela Nº5 is a single-parcel Rioja built around an unusual piece of Laguardia. The wine is 100% Tempranillo, but what defines it is not simply the variety. It is the vineyard: more than 45-year-old vines growing at 570 metres, inside the protected Lagunas de Laguardia Natural Park, surrounded by a distinctly saline environment.
The soils are limestone with a clay-loam texture, with the nearby salt lagoons adding another layer to the character of the site. That translates into a Tempranillo with ripe red fruit, spice and balsamic notes, but also an unexpected freshness and subtle saline edge that sets Parcela Nº5 apart from more conventional Rioja.
The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented with a 20-day maceration before ageing for 14 months in oak, followed by another 8 months in bottle. Structured and rounded, with polished tannins and well-integrated oak, this is a serious Rioja with a clear sense of place. Not just Tempranillo from Rioja, but Tempranillo from one very particular corner of it.
