Limniona
Limniona is the wine that made Christos Zafeirakis impossible to ignore. In Tyrnavos, he did not just help revive the variety. He gave it a modern, convincing voice. This is not a red built on weight or oak swagger. It is built on detail. Red fruit, herbs, spice, earth, lift, and that fine-boned structure that keeps pulling you back to the glass.
The wine draws its shape from two vineyard zones. Paleomylos brings finesse and earlier ripening from sandy-clay soils rich in flint. Kampilaga adds depth, calcium-driven structure, and a more grounded mineral feel. Together, they give Limniona both brightness and backbone, which is exactly why this bottling feels so complete.
In the cellar, Zafeirakis stays disciplined. Spontaneous fermentation, classic red vinification in large wooden tanks, long extraction, then 18 months in large-format oak. The result is a red with polish but no makeup. Medium-bodied, fresh, savory, and quietly complex. A wine that can speak to Pinot drinkers, but never stops being unmistakably Greek.

The producer
In Tyrnavos, at the foot of Mount Olympus, Ktima Zafeirakis has become one of the clearest modern references for Greek wine with identity. The estate is led by Christos Zafeirakis, a fourth-generation winemaker who studied oenology in Athens and continued his training in Turin and Milan before returning home in 2005 to plant his first organic vineyard. That return did not produce a nostalgic family continuation. It produced something much more relevant: a winery with roots, but also with vision… Read more
